Jersey with the first electronic lottery scratch cards
Online scratch cards have been around for several years, but now a European lottery took the first step in electronic lottery scratch cards.
The government of Jersey (Channel Islands) is the first country with electronic scratch cards that are offered in stores, these scratch cards can be played with a special electronic device. Players can pay the ticket and scratch it on the screen. When a player wins, he or she receives a receipt; with this receipt they can collect their prize.
The devices will be placed on Channel Island stores that sell lottery scratch cards including: Jersey’s airport, docks, cafes, hotels and supermarkets. The paper scratch cards will still be available at the counters.
This system is currently only available in Jersey. The Channel Islands lottery is the first government that uses this system in Europe. Paul Burnell Director of The Global Draw said: “We are convinced that electronic scratch cards are a new opportunity to increase revenue. These systems use the highest security standards and we are convinced that it will also benefit the local charities”
